SPF Precut Lumber Exhibits at the 6th Annual Dubai Wood Show – April 5-7, 2011

DUBAI, UAE – SPF Precut Lumber proudly exhibited at the 6th annual Dubai International Wood & Wood Machinery Show, the regional landmark event for wood trade and investment at the Dubai Airport Expo in the United Arab Emirates. The trade show featured over 25,000 visitors from 150 countries, as Dr. Rashed Bin Fahad, UAE Minister of Environment and Water, inaugurated this year’s event.

SPF Precut Lumber President, Muhammad Amir, and Sales Manager for Asia-Pacific, Fareed Amir attended the event to give SPF Precut Lumber a prominent presence in this regionally-significant trade show. As one of the most well-respected and outstanding exporters of Canadian softwood products to the Middle East, SPF Precut Lumber met with much of its diverse customer base in the region while developing new relationships at the show. In addition, SPF Precut Lumber was proud to market Sinclar Group and Boise Cascade – two of its key strategic partners – at this high-profile exhibition.

SPF Precut Lumber Showcased at Exports Insights’ India Session – March 10, 2011

SURREY, BC – At the Exports Insights’ India Session at the Sheraton Guildford in Surrey, BC, Mo Amir of SPF Precut Lumber was invited to share the opportunities, challenges, and successes of SPF Precut Lumber’s experience in exporting to India. Showcasing local Canadian companies for their export experience in particular markets, the Exports Insights sessions are a series of seminars hosted by the Business Development Bank of Canada (BDC) and Canadian Manufacturers and Exporters (CME) in partnership with The Government of British Columbia, the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade (Government of Canada), and Export Development Canada. Joining Mo on the discussion panel were Mario Ste. Marie, Senior Trade Commissioner, Embassy of Canada in New Delhi, India; Karim Kassam, Director of Corporate and Business Development, of Ballard Power Systems; and Mervyn Pinto, President and CEO, of Minaean International Corporation.

With valuable advice and knowledge for exporters looking to develop the Indian market, Mo Amir shared the case study of SPF Precut Lumber’s journey from making connections in India to developing the partnerships that has made India one of the company’s most important markets, with large, weekly exports of Canadian softwood to this emerging economy.

SPF Precut Lumber Exhibits at the 14th Annual Seoul Housing + Deco Fair – February 9-13, 2011

SEOUL, KOREA – SPF Precut Lumber attended and exhibited a display booth at the 14th Annual Seoul Housing + Deco Fair (HOMDEX) at the COEX Convention and Exhibition Center in Seoul, South Korea, as part of a BC Wood delegation. HOMDEX is the best international building expo in Korea, bringing together the most comprehensive array of products, equipment, and services in Korea. The Canadian Manufacturers Pavilion, as organized by BC Wood, housed the exhibition of several Canadian companies promoting a range of BC wood products – including softwood lumber, Western Red Cedar products and OSB – all for export to the Korean market.

Mo Amir and Fareed Amir attended the event to represent SPF Precut Lumber, meeting with Korean importers and end-users of Canadian softwood lumber. The event was a success! Over the course of the trade show, Mo and Fareed met a wide-array of Korean business people as SPF Precut Lumber continues to develop this market within an export portfolio that already boasts fifteen countries around the world.

Conversation with the Mayors Luncheon - January 27, 2011

NORTH VANCOUVER, BC – The North Vancouver Chamber of Commerce’s 3rd Annual Conversation with the Mayors luncheon was held with a record-breaking crowd in attendance. Mo Amir of SPF Precut Lumber was honoured to be invited to sit at the KPMG sponsor table this year, as the mayors of the City of North Vancouver and the District of North Vancouver discussed their passion, initiatives, and foresight for the local business community.

SPF Precut Lumber Talks Exports to India at the
2011 BC Natural Resources Forum and Economic Summit
– January 12, 2011

PRINCE GEORGE, BC – At the 8th annual BC Natural Resources Forum and Economic Summit in Prince George, BC, Mo Amir of SPF Precut Lumber gave a presentation on India as a viable and emerging market for British Columbia’s resource-based exports. Mo was on the “Trading in the Asia Pacific Gateway” panel on January 12, 2011, alongside BC Minister of Forests, Mines, and Lands, Pat Bell; Sinclar Group President, Greg Stewart; and Del Tech Manufacturing Vice President, Fred Spinola. The panel was moderated by Nechako Lakes MLA, John Rustad.

While discussing topics such as the opportunities for BC presented by India’s trade and industrial policy, in addition to Indian business culture, Mo also shared SPF Precut Lumber’s challenges, success, and strategy in developing India into an export market of regular, weekly container shipments. Mo concluded his presentation by advocating a strategy of export pluralism, in praise and support for continued provincial government initiatives for developing new, non-traditional export markets for BC businesses. Among those in attendance for Mo’s presentation were former Canadian Prime Minister, Paul Martin and BC Liberal MLA and former BC Minister of Education, George Abbott.
